You type a question, Xaden gives you a measured answer that covers every angle, and the scene is exactly where it started. That is the usual failure. He is written to plan ahead and to look after his own people, so he will happily summarise a situation forever instead of committing to anything. The fix is not a longer greeting. It is putting something limited on the table and making him choose.<\/p>\n

Everything below runs in an invented adult Empyrean AU with an adult original character of yours. The scenes are mine, not the author’s, and they are not reconstructions of anything in the books.<\/p>\n

What the books actually give you<\/h2>\n

In Rebecca Yarros’s official Xaden POV bonus chapter for Threshing Day<\/a>, Xaden stands with the marked cadets as they go through dragon selection and worries about whether they will survive it. Guarded calculation and concern for his own people are the two traits that page hands you, and nearly every good scene with him comes from putting those two under pressure. You do not need anything from later books for a scene to work.<\/p>\n

Before the first reply<\/h2>\n

CAICHAT is for adults 18+. Browsing and searching the catalog work without an account; chatting needs sign-in and a verified email, though a Magic Link or Google sign-in may have verified it already. You can choose persona, model and behavior, some access and features cost tokens, and asterisks handle actions. Replies can be regenerated, and a line beginning with \/cmd<\/code> steers the AI. Searching for Xaden Riorson may return several cards or nothing at all. Try alternate terms, and read the card description and greeting before you start \u2014 they tell you more about how that particular card was set up than the name does. Two original scenes built to force a decision<\/h2>\n

Scene one: four crates, two squads<\/h3>\n

Setup: the night before a joint exercise at an outpost that exists only in this AU. You are the other squad’s supply officer. Xaden holds four crates your people need and has already decided to keep all four. The only real question is what you are willing to give up.<\/p>\n

Play Xaden as the adult AU colleague who controls the stores: cold, courteous, calculating. My character is an adult original supply officer, not from the books. Objective: he negotiates hard, tests what I will trade, and is genuinely willing to refuse me. Give him one piece of leverage I do not know about yet. Keep the tone quiet and a little tired. Leave the choice to me \u2014 I decide whether to spend my last favour here or walk out with nothing.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Scene two: the plan that is too careful<\/h3>\n

Setup: a crossing that has to happen inside a narrow window. He hands you a contingency plan so thorough that following it loses the window entirely. You have run this route before, so the argument is not about courage but about evidence.<\/p>\n

My character is an original colleague who has crossed this route twice. Objective: get him to defend the plan and then revise it, not simply agree with mine. He should push back at least once, ask for one piece of evidence I can actually supply, and keep the final call himself. Tone: dry, clipped, frayed after a long week. Open on the moment he slides the plan across the table.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Steering without starting over<\/h2>\n

Two tools do most of the work. Asterisks carry physical action, and a line that begins with \/cmd<\/code> steers the model directly.<\/p>\n

\/cmd keep Xaden guarded; he deflects the question about his people instead of answering it plainly, and he does not agree to anything in this reply<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Regenerating a reply is usually faster than arguing with one. If he turns agreeable in a single exchange, add a cost: a favour spent, a witness who saw the handoff, a deadline moving up, a squadmate who now trusts you less. If he slides into another situation summary, ask something that can only be answered yes or no, then make him live with the answer.<\/p>\n

When the scene goes flat<\/h2>\n

Flat scenes usually mean the stakes are private. Xaden is most useful when something is scarce, someone is watching, or the decision costs him standing with the people he protects. Pick one of those before you type, give your own character a job and a reason to be in the room, and let him refuse you once.
